Sugar legislation cost Tiger Flakes its flavour, its confidence and Terry the Tiger. Accounts sent Derek instead.
Tiger Flakes was once a breakfast staple powered by sugar, primary colours and Terry the Tiger’s medically improbable enthusiasm. New sugar legislation forced the company to reformulate the cereal and retire the mascot who had spent decades shouting at children before school.
The modern recipe is simply flakes: beige, technically edible and fortified with the quiet understanding that mornings happen. Terry has been replaced by Derek, a compliance officer from accounts who appears on packaging to issue stern warnings about sugar intake through a regulation megaphone.
Mascots Without Borders has declined to confirm Terry’s location. Tiger Flakes says the separation was mutual; claw marks across the old boardroom door suggest the meeting had several phases.
